The Baishuiyang scenic resort, Pingnan county, Fujian province, attracted 37,500 tourists over the three-day May Day holiday, up by 77.8 percent year-on-year, according to the county authorities.

Thanks to the launch of the Ningde-Wuyishan Expressway, self-driving travellers have made up the majority of tourists, accounting for 92 percent of total tourists visiting Baishuiyang.

They came mainly from neighbouring regions, such as Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Guangdong provinces. The number of tour groups via tourism agencies also rose.

The Baishuiyang scenic resort said it will invest 11 million yuan ($1.8 million) into advertising to attract more travellers.
